Yahoo launched in 2009 Yahoo! Connected TV to surf the internet on TVs. Samsung, Sony, LG, Toshiba or Vizio manufacturers also have made this technology available in their TVs. Back in 2010 there was 8 million devices using this technology and the estimates for 2012 are 16 million, which shows the rapid growth this market will have.

As of today, developers have created more than 140 apps for this platform thanks to the widget development kit. Any one can make their own app now and every day more and more apps are created like CBS, Showtime, USA Today, NHL, etc.
